the lake city at sunset

It hardly came as a surprise when my parents suddenly decided to drive to Udaipur for a weekend. My dad had been touring for sometime and was hardly home and my mom wanted a break. So, *uthlo bai toh cuttack jai*... a Bengali proverb[translates to acting on a whim].
In flat six hours we reached Udaipur and headed straight to the City Palace to catch the spectacular light and sound show there. The guides make history sound so much more interesting and fun. It took us about three and half hours and a little more to tour the whole palace on foot and enjoy the views before we settled in for the show. The show was one of the best I've seen till date coming next to maybe the one I saw at Victoria Memorial in Calcutta.
Happened quite by chance while I was trying to figure out the 'pan' option on my phone. I do like the effect though. Somwhere in Udaipur I believe.

Last but one day

Through the past four years or say three and half years that I've stayed here, I have trained myself to categorically hate the room because of the tail wiggling, largely gross, black spotted lizards and long crawly spiders spinning webs on anything that doesnot move for five minutes. But today as i pack up my belongings and look around the bare walls, I cant help but remember those long nights of just 'chilling' [only to find out it was dawn already] or the sudden mornings when you wake up to find a pigeon in your room trying desperately to go out from the balcony drain. Or the 'jhadu' or peacock feather yielding friends [bravehearts] who tried to show a 'bhule bhatke' lizard home, shooed the bumble bee or a bat away from the light bulbs.

I had promised myself, I'll never miss the pint sized room where getting down from the bed meant hitting a wall but today I seem to be lost in my own room at home. I cant sleep at 10 not because am not sleepy but beause there are no loud conversations outside or blaring music or girlish giggles, foot stomping ...
everybody sleeps peacefully ... I lay awake .... I want lizards to run , I want pigeons to flutter in my room, I want spiders to crawl over me ...
